Our Training Approach

Our approach and standard of dog training is performed at the highest level so that each handler and dog are able to happily take commands and perform them readily. There is a  scientific approach using the four quadrants of reinforcement which include positives and negatives. The natural pendulum between nature and nurture is where we keep our balance.  Each dog is proofed in daily life situations which include places they live and reside. Challenges such as high stimulus areas outside the home are worked over with the client so they are well prepared with their dogs conditioning and are successful with their results.

During the consultation we plan out your program specific to your needs. We begin by going over the principles of your dog’s unwanted behavior that needs to be addressed. It is highly recommended that you send at least two videos of this behavior prior to our consult. The cause of these behaviors is then explained to you. There is various reasons why certain behaviors happen, they can be genetic or unconsciously taught and reinforced. The information learned is important in managing behavior correctly. The first steps we want to start with is a phase we call ‘science and social studies.’ These principles are strictly about the handler learning the personal characteristics and temperament of their dog inside and outside of the home environment. Obedience is not the goal during this step. What we encourage is silent communication catered specifically for your dog through the use of a leash and a simple collar. No verbal’s are used in this time with the exception of praise. Using these techniques you will be shown how to gauge your dog’s threshold with daily stressors as well as situations out of your control. Boundaries are established so you can enjoy a harmonious household environment and a better overall relationship. This is not a cookie cutter process, it varies heavily for each handler and dog especially if there are specific or extreme behaviors that have to change. When behavior has been addressed then obedience can begin. Obedience is not the first step to fixing behavior.

Then we will turn to what we call ‘mathematics and algebra.’ This phase is precisely calculated with specific performances whereas the latter is strictly behavioral. The algorithms that develop in obedience are very much about numbers, percentages, and rates of reinforcement. We will spend significant one on one time teaching you how to see and utilize your dog’s core learning rhythm. There’s an emphasis on being able to communicate, calibrate, and think on your feet to be one step ahead of your dog. The essence of our training is to become synchronized and in rhythm with your pet partner.

There is no set timeline with any of the training programs. It is specific to the individual dog and personal goals. All handlers must also be open to instruction and constructive criticism for best results. Those unwilling to learn will not succeed with our methods.

This is not accomplished by dominance training, but the influence you will have and the relationship we help build. Regardless of the program you select your results are still the same at completion. Advanced programs have unlimited lessons for a year.
