A 6-8 week period, of a minimum 2 session a week schedule. Located in the puppies home / yard and on Sondra’s private 170 acre bird farm in Bucks County.
As your puppy comes home the pack and daily life need to be encompassed with instincts. Development can begin before 6 months as early as 12 weeks and to continue to 6 months. See Puppy Development & Instinct Training page as also hunting dog instincts are introduced. Introductions with feathered game will be introduced as also terrain changes in natural cover and introduction to water. Working with play instincts to instill natural retrieving skills. A large foundation in Neutralization & Obstacle Training will be utilized to instill settled nerves and to desensitize the puppy for later accomplishments. Introduction to the table. Tracking skills are introduced teaching the young hunter to locate down wounded game.
Field work will be fundamentally taught at a 170 acre private bird farm preserved in Bucks County. Used for training year round with 4 flight pens and 2 large ponds that are joined by a small canal - the possibilities are endless in training.
Foundation is only preparation for formal training a substantial companion hunting partner. This is the step in which preparation and goals are warranted. Understanding the prospects if tests and trials are going to be in the future or if a personal hunting partner is.
The following is what is expected in this level:
Formal bird work at about 6 months to a 1yr. Yard and table training begin with field commands as the puppy reaches a physiological state that allows for further conditioning. As the puppy develops in obedience and field work the conditioning becomes more responsive with each week . In allowing the experience to work the field and to develop skills in working wind change and located birds also utilizing the whistle in directional changes. Only natural retrieving is encompassed at this level. Water skills are also utilized and encouraged to create a versatile hunter. Understanding in the control for the “Whoa” command with sequence of wing, shot & fall.
Commands utilized in Primary work:
At this level field work progresses to utilizing another dog and working with “braces” and teaching to “Honor” another dogs point on a bird. This takes control between dog and handler as well as the partnered dog and handler. Teaching and development is amongst Sondra’s veteran hunting dogs and than to other locations.
Retrieving skills are completed formally to land and water with presentation to hand. Stability and endurance is warranted with correct foundation at this level.
Commands utilized in Advanced work:
For titles and tests in NAVHDA and AKC Hunt Tests and the criteria involved as also with experience with those levels are offered. Private sessions and scheduled training days are available. Dedication and consistency is key in success for those accomplishments. A scheduled program and also boarding training is available.
